I'm a Slack Ass

Hi, my name is Tyler Hoog. I'm a 21 year old male and I'm a slack ass.

I figured that's the only way to really open up this post. I haven't been writing or posting at all because I'm a huge slack ass. Momma Kim, who allegedly has no chill, told me that I need to start writing again so here it goes. This will become my Sunday ritual. So, what the hell is going on in my world? Well random person reading this, I'm happy you asked!

As of right now I'm currently enrolled in four class: History of American Screenwriting (dope), Intermediate Screenwriting (also dope), Media and Popular Culture (significantly less dope), and Spanish 203 (no hablo jack shit). I was also taking Astrology 102 but after a slight melt down I decided, "ehhhh, better not."

Yes, you read that right. A slight mental breakdown. A mixture of not being entirely thrilled about the concept of being at school and being behind in the class because I didn't take Astronomy 101 had me a little stressed out.

However, after a watery eyed convo (no tears because there's no crying in baseball) with Momma Kim (the chill has still yet to be found), I decided I'd rather take summer school the next two summers and graduate in the summer of 2017, rather than the spring of 2017, instead of giving myself a mental hemorrhage trying to get it all done in a jam packed schedule. In retrospect I'm kind of a dumbass for taking ASTR 102 without taking 101 first. (Slack ass and dumbass, I've almost hit for the cycle).

So what am I doing in my classes? Another excellent questions stranger!

History of American screenwriting is very interesting. Basically we're studying screenwriting from inception. That means different things like who was the first screen right and who was the first industry and how did screenwriting start and all that jazz. Then we watch a film from a different decade every Tuesday and write a brief one page paper on the,

I recently learned something about myself. I truly appreciate the history of screenwriting and film and respect the journey it has embarked upon to bring it to its current state. Here's the but (we all knew it was coming), I don't enjoy old films. At all. But that's okay. Why? Because I said so!

Intermediate screenwriting is a lot different than my Introduction to Screenwriting class last semester. Last semester I was writing a bunch of short scripts practicing the craft. This semester I'm researching and planning out my own feature length film. Then I'll write that script next semester in Master Screenwriting. So that's pretty exciting but also tedious.

Next is Media and Popular Culture. Not much to say about that. Just a bunch of critical theory applied to popular culture and modern technology. It's mildly interesting but the readings are convoluted and a pain in the ass to read. However, after I finish this class and my screenwriting minor I will be completely done with my major. So it's not all bad.

Lastly is Spanish. I'll keep it short. I'm just trying to fake my way through it. Hopefully I can fake my way through it and be done with Spanish classes for the rest of my adult life. Hopefully.

There's been some exciting stuff going on in my life other than that. This semester the Carolina Film Association is working on producing 10 scripts this year and two of mine we optioned, so I'll be producing those the semester with some students on campus. The goal being to turn them into short film competitions. I also have a couple of my own scripts that I would like to do this year. So you'll be seeing more of my films, which is exciting! I might even cameo in them. Be the Stan Lee of college short films.

That's pretty much all that's going on in my life right now. As I said, my goal is to turn out at least one post a weak, probably on Sunday's.
